Obey the Rule: Traffic Rules for Bicycles

Bicycles are very convenient vehicle but if you do not obey the rule, you could be involved in unexpected accidents.
●Confirm safe condition of the surroundings
Are you riding on the street not pavement? Are you obeying the stop sign at the intersection? Majority of the accidents involving bicycle occur due to not stopping at the intersection sign, STOP.
●Keep in mind“When you are on the bicycle, you are the driver”
With the starting of summer holidays, there will be more children on the road riding bicycles. To avoid any accidents, obey the rule and ride bicycle safely.
Adults and children should keep in mind that “when you are on the bicycle, you are the driver of a vehicle”.
Since it is so handy and convenient, following traffic rules are very important.

◆Traffic Rules for Bicycles
・Bicycle should be driven on the street, riding on the pavement is allowed only in exceptional case.
・When on the street, keep to the left .
・When driven on the pavement, drive slowly on the street side.
・Follow the safety rule.
- NO: drunk driving・ 2-people riding・ parallel riding
Ride bicycle using umbrella or parasol
- Turn on the light at night
-OBEY: the traffic lights at the intersection・stop sign・ confirm the safety.
◆Children must wear helmets
・when a child is under 13, parent should put on helmet on a child.
◆New DO NOTS
Since May 1 2011, Kanagawa Road Regulation has changed and below action is forbidden. The penalty fee is up to \50,000.
・Ride bicycle using cell phone
・Use of headphone while driving(listening to music or radio)
